Welcome to the Quantico Yacht Club (QYC). We are located on the western shore of the Potomac River at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia. The QYC is an incorporated, nonprofit, self-sustaining, non-Federal, private entity, organized and operating under the authority and sanction of the MCBQ Base Commander. Our vision is to be recognized as the preeminent boating organization on the Upper Potomac developing an enthusiastic, capable membership through cruising, competence, competition, community and camaraderie.
The QYC can trace its origin back to 1935. The Club’s mission is to promote safe, enjoyable recreational boating and competitive sailing activities in support of active and former members of the United States uniformed services and their dependents through a variety of organized events, instructional programs and social activities.
In 1952 the First Annual Frostbite Regatta was organized by active duty QYC members and soon 100’s of Lightning, a popular 19’ trailerable one design class sailboat, came from across America to Quantico to race the Frostbite Regattas. Later, both the Commanding General of Quantico and the Mayor of Quantico would sponsor this event culminating with the East Coast National Championship being sailed on our home waters.
Today, the Quantico Yacht Club continues to be a strong vibrant boating club. Each year we host three Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) sailboat races — Spring Tune Up, Masters of the Potomac, and Frostbite and our membership participates in a number of other races on the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. We have three major cruises each year – Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day – as well as many other short notice ad hoc cruises and raft-ups. In addition to our races and cruises, the QYC conducts boating education, has local social events, and supports local community activities including the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society and Sea Scouts of America.
If you are a sail or power boat owner, interested in learning, or someone who simply enjoys a boating environment , please join us at our regular monthly meeting and social, the second Friday of each month at 7:30PM.
